Personal Bio
Origins & Identity
I was born in 1989 at Nsambya Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. John Baptist Ssuuna Walugembe of Kibuye, Kampala, Uganda. I lived briefly with my paternal grandmother until age 3, and then grew up at my paternal grandfather's home until I married my wonderful wife, Mrs. Kikulwe, on June 30, 2021. Over the years, I've gathered a few nicknames: Rickie (from my youth), Ssuuna Jnr. (which I derived from my father's last name), and Ka-engine, given to me by colleagues at Fang Fang Restaurant due to my swift, tireless, and hardworking nature. I have always loved to work, regardless of the industry.
The Spark of Technology
My love for technology started early. Around the age of 10, people in my community would bring me their faulty cellphones, and to my own surprise, I was actually able to fix them. I didn't even know what an "IT course" meant back then, but I knew I wanted to do it. During my O-levels, friends and I would frequent an internet cafe in Bakuli to surf the web. Friends like Steven Maina (a PLE O.B.) and Jeff helped sharpen my skills in my early twenties. And a special blessing goes to my "Muvabulaaya" grandpa who helped me acquire my very first official credential in tech.
Resilience & Education
My journey into the professional world started early due to the loss of my beloved grandfather, who was my source of school funding and meant everything to me. I began working at 17, hoping to gather enough finances to bring myself back to school. Academically, when I finally started the IT journey I had dreamt of, I struggled to get the guidance I needed from teachers. Because I am someone who refuses to just coast through a course without truly understanding it, I made the bold choice to switch my major from Applied Tech to Applied Business—a decision I don't regret one bit.
Purpose & Values
My being in software today has God written all over it. I am a problem solver at heart, especially for people. My wife gave me the nickname "Volu" (derived from Volunteering) because I happily offer my tech services for free, driven by love and passion. I firmly believe that if God created me for a specific mission, it is to offer support to others. Rooted in my beliefs as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I value integrity above all else. I have walked away from work and money when it compromised my standards, and I have absolutely no regrets. I am exactly where I am meant to be.
